Jorge Posada has decided to retire.

New York Yankees catcher Jorge Posada has decided to call it a career after 17 years in New York.   Posada is 1 of the top catchers in Yankee’s history behind Yankee great Yogi Berra.

Posada is expected to make the announcement within the next 2 weeks.  Yogi Berra and Bill Dickey are the only 2 catchers in Yankee history to have caught more games than Posada.

Last season for the Yankee’s Posada lost his starting catcher job before the start of the season.  Posada was the Yankee’s main DH and he batted 6th to start the season but after a bad start he was dropped to the 9 hole and finished the season with an average of .235 and 14 home runs.

Now Posada will go down as 1 of the top players in Yankee history but will he be a Hall of Famer?  Based on his career stats (.273avg, 275HRs & 1065RBI) Posada probably isn’t a Hall of Famer.  But because Posada played for the Yankees when they were 1 of the top teams in baseball he may get in just because of the team that he played for.

Now I do think that Posada was 1 of the top catchers in baseball during his prime but I don’t think that he is a Hall of Famer.
