Packers win third straight, take first place in NFC North

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Coming into the game, the Green Bay Packers were down their top receivers in James Jones and Randall Cobb, yet it proved to be no problem. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers seems to have calmed the nerves of Packers fans who started off 1-2 on the season, and have ripped off three straight wins, with their 31-13 win over the Cleveland Browns.

It’s a telling story that rookie Eddie Lacy has been a very key addition to the Packers offense, as while Aaron Rodgers is the driver, Lacy is the front-seat passenger in the Packers moving train. Rodgers, like always, was rather efficient going 25-36 for 260 yards, and three touchdowns with no interceptions. Lacy, the rookie runner out of Alabama who is healthy and has a firm grip on the starting position, rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown.

For the Browns it was same story, same sorry results, led by Brandon Weeden. The Browns fell to 3-4 on the season as Weeden went 17-42 for 149 yards with one touchdown, and one interception. Weeden’s lone touchdown came to young rising tight-end Jordan Cameron with just over six minutes left in the fourth quarter.

With Jones and Cobb out with injuries, second-year receiver Jarrett Boykin was called upon, and he answered with the best game of his young career. Boykin had 8 catches for 103 yards, and a touchdown on 10 targets, while Rodgers found Jordy Nelson, and Jermichael Finley for his other two scores. Finley’s day was ended after he suffered a neck injury in which caused him to be immobilized and carted off the field. The team did announce that Finley had all feeling in his extremities as he left the game.

The Packers (4-2) now hold full control of the NFC North division and will travel to Minnesota to take on the Vikings next Sunday night on NBC. The Browns meanwhile, will travel to Kansas City to take on the undefeated Chiefs next Sunday.
