Jets re-sign Jeff Cumberland to three-year deal

Jeff Cumberland

Tight end hasn’t been the sexiest position for the New York Jets, but it seems as if the team believes they’ve found their guy. Manish Mehta reported first that the Jets and Jeff Cumberland have agreed to a three-year deal. After playing behind Kellen Winslow in the beginning of the season, Cumberland had a team-high four reception touchdowns, with 398 yards, and 26 receptions.

According to Mehta, the deal with Cumberland doesn’t mean the team won’t look elsewhere. The Jets are currently having internal discussions about Ed Dickson, Scott Chandler, and Brandon Pettigrew says team sources. Cumberland has started 24 games over the last two seasons in green.

The Jets have also been mocked to take Eric Ebron, tight end out of North Carolina, in several mock drafts on different media outlets. Either way, Cumberland has proven his worth to the team, and the Jets begin rounding up players to help solidify their offense in 2014.
