Vikings re-sign Everson Griffen to 5-year deal

Everson Griffen

One of the top free agents in the 2014 class is officially off the market. Today it was announced that the Vikings have re-signed defensive end Everson Griffin to a five-year deal worth $42.5 million and $20 million guaranteed.

According to Pro Football Focus, Griffen has 13.5 sacks and 62 quarterback hurries over the last two seasons. With Jared Allen likely departing for free agency, Griffen presumably will have a new starting role come the 2014 season. Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer, a defensive minded head coach, is also linking the Vikings to a former player of his, Bengals defensive end Michael Johnson.

Either Johnson will take less to join Zimmer, or the Vikings have made it clear that Griffen is their guy of the future. The team also announced today that they have linebacker Jasper Brinkley to a one-year deal.
