Report: Patrick Beverley has torn meniscus; return unclear

Patrick Beverley

Right before the playoffs begin, the Houston Rockets have suffered a big loss to one of their top defenders, and tough guys on their team. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, guard Patrick Beverely has suffered a torn meniscus.

It was initially reported as a knee sprain after the Rockets defeated the Sixers last night, but now Wojnarowski as noted above, will have a second opinion to determine his return timetable. Beverely is second on the team with 1.4 steals per game, and is known as one of the toughest defenders in the NBA, taking pressure off James Harden and Chandler Parsons on the defensive side of the ball. With Beverley out, Jeremy Lin will be the team’s starting point guard.

Rookie guard Isaiah Cannan also played 14 minutes after Beverley exited the game last night against the Sixers, and will likely takeover as the team’s backup point guard.
