Report: Browns will match Jaguars’ offer for Alex Mack

Alex Mack

The Browns are keeping their Pro Bowl center Alex Mack in Cleveland despite the Jaguars efforts. First reported by Jay Glazer of Fox Sports and confirmed by an ESPN report, the Browns are matching the 5-year $42 million offer sheet that the Jaguars signed Alex Mack to.

The offer sheet was signed by Mack on Friday, and although the Browns had until Wednesday to match, they did so in a matter of hours. The Browns initially placed a transitional franchise-tag on Mack, and in doing so will now take on the reported 5-year $42 million contract, with nearly $26 million guaranteed.

The contract is not just money heavy for Mack, but it also includes an opt-out option after two years, meaning he can void the remaining three years of his deal and become a free agent after two seasons, and there is a no-trade inclusion as well.
