Report: Panthers’ Greg Hardy arrested for domestic violence with girlfriend

Greg Hardy

UPDATE: Here are more details regarding Hardy’s arrest, including a mugshot.

According to a report from WSOC TV, Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy has been arrested on suspicion of domestic violence involving his girlfriend. While there are no further details at this time, the police say Hardy’s arrest is a misdemeanor.

Hardy was signed to the franchise tag this year, which will make him $13.1 million this upcoming season, and gives him until July 15 to sign a long-term deal with the team. Situations like this won’t help getting that long-term deal, and the Panthers drafted Kony Ealy in this past weekend’s draft, meaning more slip-ups and the team may have just gotten his replacement.

We’ve seen this type of story with Ravens running back Ray Rice, who avoided jail time, but it was an ugly situation. We’ll have more as details come out.
