Red Sox announce Shane Victorino out for season

Shane Vic

Outfielder Shane Victorino has played in only 30 games this season for the Boston Red Sox, and now the 2014 season is over for him. Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe first reported that Victorino will be out for the remainder of the season due to back surgery.

Victorino hit .268 with 2 home runs and 12 RBIs on the season, just one year after he hit .294 with 15 home runs, 61RBIs and 21 stolen bases.

In his absence, the Red Sox have replaced Victorino with Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley Jr. and Brock Holt, at different times throughout the season.
