Cornering The Market: Jay-Z, Super Agent Rob London, and Roc Nation’s Possible Alliance
- Updated: May 31, 2013
Last week, news broke out exclusively on Full Scale Sports regarding the high profile negotiations between Jay-Z’s Roc Nation and NFL Uber-Executive Rob London; to head up sports at Roc Nation. While there has been no word from either camp about the specific mater, some of you may have been asking the question; “Who is Rob London?”
I believe I’ve got a handle on who this guy is (there was a wealth of information online). London, one of the more prominent individual who advocates for NFL players’ is the President of Rob London Sports & Entertainment Management, a firm based in Washington, DC. He payed football at Delaware State University and while in attendance he was coached by several current NFL team executives.
Former a Vice President at Dow Lohnes Sports and Entertainment where he was integral part in developing what is now one of the more successful sports law practices in the industry.
London has counseled the likes of Pro Bowl stars such as Jacksonville Jaguars’ Maurice Jones-Drew, Chicago Bears’ Matt Forte, Antoine Bethea of the Indianapolis Colts, and Super Bowl Champion, Baltimore Ravens, third year quarterback Tyrod Taylor.
Since starting his own sports firm, Rob London Sports & Entertainment Management seems to have hit the ground running by acquiring players from several different NFL teams.
Over the years, London has had his hand play part in some of the biggest names in football, including Matt Forte’s contract situation in 2012 that landed him a four-year $32 million deal. As one of the most respected executives in the sports business in my opinion, there is no telling the heights of which Rob London could lead the new Roc Nation Sports.
“Cornering The Market” comes to mind when thinking of this alliance. I for one am predicting that if the”meeting of the great minds” does happen, Rob London and Roc Nation could garner the attention/consideration from all of the top NFL Draft picks in the 2014 Draft.
Among the elite college players who could possibly be “in play” to ROCK with Roc Nation Sports and London include names like USC’s electrifying wide receiver Marqise Lee, Clemson’s “Mr. Everything” wide receiver Sammy Watkins, Michigan’s massive offensive tackle Taylor Lewan, and the man that needs no introduction, South Carolina’s Jadeveon Clowney, who could be the first overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft!
As Roc Nation continues to seek out some of the bright young stars in sports today, such as Yankees’ Robinson Cano, New York Jets’ Geno Smith, and Skylar Diggins of the WNBA Tulsa Shock, the acquisition of London would give an already powerful name brand, tons of validation. London brings a stellar reputation, deep connections within the NFL community, and the knowledge-base necessary to negotiate complex player contracts.
These are indeed powerful players in their respective industries! An alliance could change the landscape of the sports industry, and how sports business gets done! Seems like Rob and The ROC are deep “in the building!”.
This story is to be continued as one of the hottest sports business news items of late. Also included in this story are soundbites (specifically regarding Rob London) I was able to obtain from one of London’s former client’s  father, Rodney Taylor, of Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens quarterback Tyrod Taylor, Leshawna Pead, mother of St. Louis Rams starting running back Isaiah Pead, and Simone Mitchell former recruiting manager at Dow Lohnes.
