Top 5 NFL Quarterbacks to Watch in 2013-14
- Updated: July 31, 2013
This upcoming NFL season should be unexpected and exciting.
This year’s quarterbacks will be fun to watch, it’s hard to tell who will be the best though. That’s what I’m here for, to list the top 5 quarterbacks to watch out for in the 2013 and 2014 season.
5. Andy Dalton
The Cincinnati Bengals got stronger this off-season, while other teams, like the Ravens got weaker. Andy Dalton and company look like they have this division locked down. Now all they have to do is execute. Andy Dalton has been eliminated from the playoffs for his second season in a row, now that he has a stronger defense to back him up and determined teammates, he should try and get farther than the Wild Card round. This is a team to watch out for and it’s being led by the quarterback, Andy Dalton.
4. Philip Rivers
The Chargers are in a tough division, but you can still be a great quarterback and not win your division. Philip Rivers has to battle against Peyton Manning twice and everybody knows that’s not easy, especially with the team around Manning. “I think my best football is ahead of me, I really do,” Philip said. “That’s being optimistic, because we’ve had a lot of really good years. I am probably on the second half of my career, the back end, but I think I’ve got a lot of good football left.” With Norv Turner out of San Diego, it should give the Chargers a fresh start. Mike McCoy is the new head coach and he knows who the leader of this team is. Philip Rivers should have a better season than he usually does.
3. Cam Newton
Cam Newton did well last year, but he had no supporting cast. This season, he might actually have some help, with the new additions of Domenik Hixon and Ted Ginn Jr. Just with those new targets alone, it should make Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers so much better. The bad news for the Panthers is their schedule. They have the hardest schedule this season (based on last season’s records). They play teams that had a combined record 138-116-2. Just as long as Cam Newton doesn’t lose confidence, he will do just fine this season.
2. Matt Ryan
The Falcons made it to the NFC Championship last year and gave Matt Ryan his first playoff win of his career. Now that he knows how to win in the playoffs, it’s a whole new ball game. Ryan showed composure in the NFC Divisional round last season, not being fazed by the miraculous comeback by the Seahawks. He made effective passes to get his team into field goal range and win the game. If he can do that this season (but score touchdowns instead of field goals) he will make the team a major threat throughout the whole season. With the addition of Steven Jackson, Matt Ryan now has a motivated and stronger backfield. The Falcons will go far this season, and Matt Ryan will be the player that’s leading it all.
1. Drew Brees
Sean Payton’s back. That is a major part why Drew Brees is number 1 on this top 5 list. Brees can finally be comfortable on the field when he is scoring touchdowns every game. Drew Brees puts up incredible numbers every year and sometimes breaks records! Drew is an amazing quarterback; and doesn’t let anybody get in his way when he wants to win. He has a great team surrounding him, which is also a plus. Drew Brees makes everyone around him better, it won’t change much this season either. He can only get better.
Honorable Mentions: Tony Romo, Russell Wilson, Sam Bradford, Joe Flacco, Matthew Stafford, and Colin Kaepernick.
