Rios Headed To Texas
- Updated: August 9, 2013
Yesterday the Texas Rangers put in a claim for White Sox OF Alex Rios and today, according to multiple outlets they have acquired Rios for a player to be named later, which is expected to be Leury Garcia who is a 22 year old speedy middle infielder.
After learning about the trade, Alex Rios said “Well, I believe its going to be refreshing for myself. I’m going to go to a team that is fighting for a playoff spot. I believe its going to be refreshing” (ESPN.COM)
Rios is hitting .277 with 12 HR’s and 55 RBI’s while scoring 57 runs stealing 26 bases, good for 6th in the American league and will try and replace the offensive gap that was left by RF Nelson Cruz who was suspended 50 games for his use of PED’s in connection with Biogenesis. Ron Washington manager of the Texas Rangers had this to say about Alex Rios, “He is a complete player, He’s a solid outfielder. He’s a tremendous baserunner. He just gives us completeness. That’s what we needed.” (ESPN.COM)
White Sox fans should not fret as this is another move towards the future, opening up a starting spot for newly acquired OF Avisail Garcia, who was acquired from the Detroit Tigers in the 3 team deal that sent Jake Peavy to the Boston Red Sox. Rick Hahn, the White Sox’s first year general manager stated that ” This opens an opportunity for Avisail Garcia and that’s a big consideration for us as we start to retool this club and bring in that next group of guys and get them going on their major league career and development.” (ESPN.COM)
