Girlfriend of Ryan Anderson, Gia Allemand, Dead At 29
- Updated: August 14, 2013
NEW ORLEANS — Gia Allemand, a former contestant on “The Bachelor” and girlfriend to New Orleans Pelicans forward Ryan Anderson, has died. The 29 year old died of an apparent suicide attempt from Monday, according to sources.
In a statement released by the Allemand family, Anderson discovered Allemand and called 911, when an ambulance took her to University Hospital in New Orleans and put her on life support. Due to a critical loss of brain and organ function, Allemand was taken off life support Wednesday.
“Ms. Allemand passed away peacefully with her mother, boyfriend, and other life-long friends by her side,” a statement from the Allemand family read. ”As a practicing Christian, Gia did receive the sacrament of last rites.”
Along with her current position as a Maxim model, Allemand was well known for appearing on ABC reality shows “The Bachelor” and “Bachelor Pad” in 2010.
“Those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. Luke 14:11,” Anderson sent in a tweet on Monday, the same day Allemand attempted suicide.
Anderson released a statement earlier regarding Allemand.
“I’m deeply grateful for all the love and support we have received from family, friends and fans,” the statement read. ”Gia was the most beautiful person I knew inside and out and she always smiled and made everyone else around her smile. She had such an amazing impact on my life and anyone that knew her was blessed. All I have left is to cherish those memories we made together and help perpetuate the many values, faith and love that we shared.”
Along with Anderson, many members from “The Bachelor” extended sympathies Wednesday, from the show’s host Chris Harrison to close friend Melinda Farina.
Funeral services are pending.
