Broncos’ Bowlen 1st Owner in NFL to Win 300 in 30 Years
- Updated: November 12, 2013
The Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen is the first in pro football history to win 300 games in 30 years. In fact, Bowlen actually accomplished the feat in 29 seasons and 9 games. Denver’s win over San Diego Sunday gave Bowlen his 300th win and the game ball.
Pat Bowlen took over as majority owner of the Denver Broncos on March 23, 1984. By July 1985, Bowlen and his family had acquired 100 percent ownership of the team. Since then, the Broncos have won two out of five Super Bowls, won 10 AFC West titles and have made 15 playoff appearances. Furthermore, Denver ranks second in regular-season wins and Super Bowl appearances in addition to finishing with the fewest losing seasons among non-expansion teams.
There are 13 other NFL owners who have reached 300 wins. Out of the 14, Pat Bowlen’s 60-percent career winning percentage (300-187-1) is second only to Giants founder Tim Mara.
