Kershaw placed on 15-day DL

Los Angles Dodgers LHP and Ace Clayton Kershaw was placed on the 15-day disabled list for the first time in his 7-year career today with a swollen muscle on the left-side of his upper back.

The 26-year-old lefty already made his season debut in Australia where he pitch 6.2 inning allowing one run and five hits while striking out 7 and picking up the victory over Arizona. Kershaw was scheduled to start on Sunday against the Padres, but he was previously scratched from it.

Kershaw is coming off an NL Cy Young award and he has also won that award two of the last three seasons. Not to mention, the contract he signed back in January making him the richest pitcher in Major League Baseball history. That contract was worth $215 million over the next seven seasons.

Los Angeles is clearly making a move to protect their Ace and you can’t blame them. After investing so much money in one player, you want to make sure he’s nothing less than 100% every time he takes the hill. If he has to miss the first couple of weeks of the season to ensure that, then so be it.
