Welcome Home Woodson: Charles Woodson Signs With Raiders
- Updated: May 21, 2013
OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA - NFL Insider Jay Glazer has reported that the Oakland Raiders & Charles Woodson have agreed to terms on a one year deal. Woodson will return to the team that drafted him 4th overall in 1998.
At the beginning of free agency I was quoted saying, “While I understand Charles Woodson missed 9 games in 2012, I still feel like he can be productive on the field & can still compete at a high level. At this stage in his career Woodson obviously isn’t the athlete he once was but his versatility & experience is not to be over looked. Charles Woodson could come in & be your swiss army knife, you could line him up at safety, put him in the box, rush him off the edge or line him up against the slot receiver.”
I still feel this way & with Michael Huff gone in free agency to Baltimore the opening at safety is there for the veteran Woodson. For those Raiders fans worried about Woodson missing extended time last year consider the following, the year before leaving Oakland Charles Woodson missed 10 games & everyone felt he was done. Fast forward 7 years, Charles Woodson misses 9 games before being cut by the Green Bay Packers, I for one think in the right system we could see him return to his elite status in 2013. While I don’t think he’s still as dominate as he once was you can make the argument that because of his style of play he still has a ton of value & a lot of football left on that body.
