5 Games That Will Decide The National Champion
- Updated: October 23, 2013
With the initial BCS rankings recently being released, things are falling into place for certain teams as they prepare for what could be a historic national title run. Certain games will decide who will be hoisting up crystal football at the end of the season
Honorable Mention:
Ohio State @ Michigan
Ohio State is on a 19 game winning streak that could extend to 23 by the time these teams play. A one-loss Michigan team could be the one to knock off the already shaky Buckeyes, especially during this intense rivalry game.
LSU @ Alabama
These teams have showcased some of the greatest games in recent history, and now with LSU out of the title picture, they have a chance to knock their hated foes out of the title race as well.
Texas A&M @ Missouri
Missouri has been one of the biggest surprises in the nation, and even without QB James Franklin they were able to beat down on Florida, can they continue their winning ways against Money Manziel and the Aggies?
Oregon-UCLA
Brett Hundley has led UCLA to the top of Los Angeles and the top of the Pac 12-South, Will his Heisman hopeful season end the Ducks National Championship season?
SEC Championship Game
The winner of this game has won the National Championship six of the last seven years, no reason to believe this year will be any different.
5. Baylor vs. Texas Tech @ AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX
The Big 12 is having a weaker season than previous years and the Bears and Red Raiders are benefiting the most from the weaker conference. Neither of these teams will make it to Pasadena if there are two other undefeated BCS teams left standing at the end of the year, but if there isn’t then this will be the game circled for both teams. Tech and Baylor have both had a relatively easy schedule as of late but that will pick up in the coming weeks. Both teams will have to play four teams with winning records and three ranked teams to close out the seasons, but if Baylor can continue putting up video game stats on offense and Tech keeps riding their True Freshmen QBs to victory, then this game will be the decider. Improved defenses have been the mantra for these teams and the game may come down to Tech’s passing O vs Baylor’s passing D and Baylor’s rushing O vs Tech’s rushing D.
4. ALABAMA @ AUBURN
These two teams hate each other and play with ferocity regardless of what their records are and this season will be no different. Auburn has been the SEC West’s biggest surprise as Gus Malzahn has turned this team around and made them a winning team again in his first season as head coach. Bama is well Bama, they continue to win and are looking for their third straight NCAA championship which has never happened in the BCS era. Playing in Jordan-Hare will be a hostile environment for the Crimson Tide, but if they can leave Auburn with a win they might be on their way to Pasadena.
3. Oregon @ Stanford
At the beginning of the season, I said that the winner of this game would go to the National Championship Game, and that can still hold true. Oregon has the second best offense in the nation behind Heisman favorite Marcus Mariota, and have scored over 50 points in every game but one (45 points against 16th ranked Washington). Stanford has the best chance of all the one-losses to still make the national title game because of their wins against Washington and 9th ranked UCLA, and the fact that they have the opportunity to beat the consensus #2 team in the nation. Can Stanford keep their hope alive and pull off the upset or will the Ducks continue their dominance?
2. Miami (FL) @ Florida State
Famous Jameis Winston has taken the world by storm and you can call me a fan. After obliterating 3rd ranked Clemson, the BCS put the Seminoles in the #2 spot which would put them in the title game, now can they keep it up? Stephen Morris has led the Hurricanes to an upstart season and has led the hurricanes to their best start since 2004. Only way that Morris and head coach Al Golden can prove that they are for real is to knock off in state rival Florida State and take full control of the ACC title race, but the way Winston and the ‘Noles are playing right now I’m not sure that they can be stopped.
1. National Championship Game
Safe to say that the winner of this game will be the National Champion. Pasadena, California has been home to some of the greatest national championship games ever and this one should not disappoint. Can the reign of the SEC be stopped? Will Heisman hopefuls Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston lead their teams all the way? Will a one-loss team break through? No one knows the answers to these just yet, but one thing that is for certain is that January 6th, 2014 will be the great night.
