DeMarcus Cousins Says Maloof-Era Was Like Playing For An “AAU Team”

DeMarucs Cousins Is Happy The Maloofs Are Gone.

The Maloof family agreed to sell the Sacramento Kings back in May for a record $535 million.A local group led by Vivek Ranadive invested in the franchise and will keep the team in Sacramento.

Nobody was happier to see this deal done than the Sacramento natives, but DeMarcus Cousins is a close second.

In a wide-ranging interview with a local news station, Cousins expressed his feelings about the Maloof-era.

“It felt like an AAU team. Everything [critics] were saying before, I believe it’s true. We were the worst. We weren’t building for the future, we were just living in the moment. That’s why we were that bad. … Honestly, I feel like I wasted time. I hate the fact that it took everything we went through to get to this. I guess you could say it makes that much better.”

Cousins posted 30 points and 14 rebounds in a season opening victory over Denver.
