Vince Wilfork asks for release from Patriots
- Updated: March 13, 2014
After 10 seasons in New England, Vince Wilfork has asked for his release from the Patriots. According to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport the Patriots approached Wilfork about taking a pay-cut and it was a nonstarter. Coming off a torn Achilles tendon in 2013, Wilfork was set to make $7.5 million, with $11.6 going against the cap after he signed an extension in 2010.

Wilfork was a talented leader, and a face of the Patriots franchise both on and off the field in his past 10 seasons, but unwilling to take a pay-cut spelled the end for the relationship.
