Wilfork stays a Patriot
- Updated: March 27, 2014
Two weeks ago, Vince Wilfork requested his release and stormed out of New England. Many thought that this was the end of an era in Foxboro. Wilfork tweeted out a short time ago that he is maintaining his goal to retire a Patriot. Vince also added “I look forward to getting back to football and helping my team compete and have a chance at winning a Super Bowl.”
Then just a few minutes later, Adam Schefter reported that Wilfork restructured a deal so that he could remain a Patriot. The 5-time Pro Bowler agreed to a 3-year, $22.5 million restructured contract.
It was clear that Patriots Owner Robert Kraft wanted a close friend in Vince to remain with the team and for them to put all of this aside and look towards the future. The Patriots are no longer in search of a Nose Tackle, because they are bring theirs back.
A leader on the defense and a stand-out guy in the locker room, will remain with the team. Vince and Tom Brady are the only two remaining players from the last Super Bowl victory during the 2004 season. With this, Vince Wilfork will more than likely retire a Patriot.
