QB Carousel: NFL Free Agency Puts Signal Callers In New Homes

The NFL lockout has come to an end and with it a frenzy of transactions, commitments, and rumors have stirred.  Though no free agent right now can sign with a team they are allowed to talk.  Signing veteran free agents begin friday at 6 P.M. and it will be a splash. focusing in on some key deals and commitments we turn to the captain of the offense the quarterback. There has been a lot of movement in this department most notably Donovan McNabb.

McNabb got traded to the Minnesota Vikings which will become official on Thursday.  Washington agreed to trade McNabb for a 2012 6th round pick with a conditional 6th round pick in 2013 pending performance.  McNabb had to restructure his contract in order for this deal to happen because the Vikings didn’t have the cap room for his current contract. Here McNabb will be a mentor to 12th round draft pick Christian Ponder.

Donovan McNabb is the new Vikings QB, taking over for Brett Favre.

Seattle Seahawks came to an agreement with QB Tarvaris Jackson.  Terms of the deal are not yet known, but Tarvaris should assume the starting role.  With Tarvaris team-mate Sidney Rice has come to terms with Seattle as well.  That mean Matt Hasselback didn’t resign with the Seahawks, and has moved on. Hasselback has come to an agreement to term with the Tennessee Titans.  With the announcement of Kerry Collins retirement and the Vince Young trade or cut, Tennessee went after Hasselbeck. Hasselbeck will be grooming number 8 overall pick Jake Locker. He brings leadership skills to a team in need of it.

Carson Palmer is still holding his own on  threatening to retire if the Cincinnati Bengals won’t trade him.  Owner Mike Brown said that Carson will not be traded at all.  With that in place the Bengals agreed to a two-year contract with Bruce Gradkowski.  Bruce will be brought in to help aid and mentor Rookie Andy Dalton the Bengals second round pick.

While those are all but done deals there are talks still going on with more quarterbacks. Denver Broncos are in trade talks with Miami Dolphins to deal Kyle Orton. With Denver feeling more comfortable with Tim Tebow they look to unload Kyle for a draft pick(s).  In Philadelphia,  Eagles look to trade QB Kevin Kolb to the Arizona Cardinals. This has been the discussion for a long time even with the lockout.  In return the Cardinals are looking to give the Eagles CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a draft pick.  Arizona struggled last year with the QB position and look to fill that much-needed void with Kolb. Expect that deal to get done soon.

Alex Smith has reached an agreement on a 1 year deal to stay with San Francisco. He will get a fresh start with new coach Jim Harbaugh.  Matt Leinert has also agreed to stay with the Houston Texans.  Jake Delhomme will be cut by the Cleveland Browns.  Last but not least there is rumors that Brett Farve could make another return to be a backup with the Eagles. No surprise as Farve has been known for doing this in the past. In the next coming days and weeks there is certain to be more moves made at quarterback and they will be reported right here at Fullscalesports.com.
