Eagles name Vick starter for week 1; Nick Foles starter for week 2

PHILADELPHIA- The Philadelphia Eagles have named their starting quarterback, kind of. The Eagles and head coach Chip Kelly have announced that Michael Vick will start against the New England Patriots in week one of the preseason. After the announcement, Kelly also announced that Nick Foles would start for the team in week two of the preseason.

While there have been several conflicting reports on which quarterback has been the better of the two in training camp, how they perform in live game action will ultimately be the deciding factor. Kelly also told media reporters to not read too much into the decision to start Vick and Foles, as the competition is still ongoing.

After Foles and Vick split reps, rookie Matt Barkley will come in, followed by Dennis Dixon. Last season Vick was benched in favor of Foles last season, but threw for 2,362 yards with 12 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in 10 games. Foles played in 6 games last season and threw for 1,699 yards with 6 touchdowns and five interceptions. During this off-season Foles said “I’m not here to be a back-up”.

Game on for Vick, Foles, and this wide open Eagles quarterback competition.
