Report: Mike Shanahan won’t name RG3 starter for next week, yet
- Updated: December 9, 2013
Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan is speaking to the media today following the team’s 45-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, and there are plenty of headliners coming already. Shanahan’s biggest quote of the presser so far is the fact that he won’t name Robert Griffin III the starter for next week’s game, just yet.
Shanahan says he won’t name RG3 starter for the week yet because Redskins giving up too many sacks: “I want to make sure he’s healthy.”

Shanahan says he’ll make decision by Wed. whether to start RG3 vs. ATL based on whether he thinks it’s in “best interest of organization.” — Jeff Darlington (@JeffDarlington) December 9, 2013
Would you like to coach this football team next year? Shanahan: “Does anybody have any questions about this football game?” — Jeff Darlington (@JeffDarlington) December 9, 2013
Shanahan: “I think I used ‘the moving out of the office’ to show how things get carried away.” … What does this mean?

Shanahan on possibly shelving RG3: “If he did get injured, I’d be very disappointed if he wasn’t there in the offseason.” …This is deep.

Ponder this: Report said Shanahan wanted to quit last year but realized he couldn’t after RG3 got hurt. This year? Considering shelving RG3.

Shanahan is clearly worried about Griffin’s health moving forward, and is seemingly dodging every question about returning to the team next season. If Griffin is benched does this make it easier for Shanahan to escape D.C? This situation seems to be lost, over, and done with between Mike Shanahan and RG3, and Mike Shanahan and the Washington Redskins.
