Shane Victorino to DL
- Updated: March 31, 2014
A source just confirmed to me that the Red Sox are placing Right Fielder Shane Victorino (hamstring) on the 15-day disabled list. The Red Sox soon after officially announce the move, and OF Jackie Bradley Jr. was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Shane was dealing with a boat load of minor injuries up until Saturday, where he strained his right hamstring. Victorino flew back to Boston yesterday for an MRI and was set to undergo a “full examination” today. Clearly the injury was serious enough to land the Flyin’ Hawaiian a stint on the disabled list.
Mike Carp is in the lineup this afternoon for the Red Sox playing Left Fielder with Daniel Nava moving over to right for today’s season opener. The Red Sox are clearly airing on the side of caution as they should, because during last year’s championship run, Shane Victorino was a key contributor for Boston.
Jackie Bradley Jr. will see some time in the lineup, but clearly is determined to impress after being beat out for the starting Center Field job by Grady Sizemore. Expect Bradley Jr. to platoon right field with a combination of Nava/Gomes/Carp and whomever is not starting in left field that particular day.
