Any Given Sunday … Broncos defeat Jaguars 35-19

Any given Sunday… The talk all last week was not if the Broncos would win, but by how many points. But it turned out to be more “if” then “how many” as Denver defeated Jacksonville 35-19. With the Jaguars total season 51 points in five games equaling the Broncos’ 51 points against the Cowboys in game 5, it was a given Denver would win. So much so, the 28 point spread was the most in NFL history. In an unusual turnover-filled game, the Broncos did not cover the spread and didn’t really have the game under control until the fourth quarter.

The winless Jaguars turned out to be far less of a pushover than expected. Jacksonville quarterback Chad Henne outthrew Peyton Manning connecting with Justin Blackmon 14 times for 190 yards and threw a total of 303 yards. Manning had two fumbles and threw his second interception of the season which was returned 59 yards for a touchdown. Manning finished 28 for 42 for 295 yards and 2 touchdowns, marking the first time he’s been held under 300 this season. Manning’s 22 total touchdowns through six games is an NFL record. Knowshon Moreno rushed for three touchdowns.

The Broncos will have to play better against the 4-1 Colts next week in Indianapolis for Manning’s homecoming, for which the Colts are planning a celebration. Denver will be celebrating the return of linebacker Von Miller, who is a free man starting today after a six-game suspension for violating the league’s drug policy. Miller’s first regular season game will be next week against the Colts in Indianapolis.
