Zach Duke Signs Minor League Deal With Reds
- Updated: August 13, 2013
Louisville — Zach Duke signed a minor league deal with the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday. He will report to Triple-A Louisville.
Duke, the former Pittsburgh ace, ended his two year run in Washington earlier this week when he was designated for assignment and then later released. Nationals manager Davey Johnson, envisioned Duke as a long man out of the Washington bullpen, but an 8.71 ERA in 12 appearance this season raised a red flag.
As the former number one starter on the Pirates, Duke had one All Star season with the club in 2009. After some success in Pittsburgh, his career has taken a turn for the worse. In nine MLB seasons with three different teams, Duke has a 50-75 record with a 4.60 ERA. The left hander will look to earn a spot on the major league 40 man roster before September call ups.
