Texans lose fourth straight; Andre Johnson says fans “have no class”

HOUSTON- It’s a downward spiral of a season that no one saw coming in Houston, and now it’s getting ugly. The Houston Texans were stunned by the St. Louis Rams who man-handled them on their home field, as shaky quarterback  play and costly mistakes spelled doomed for the Texans who are now 2-4.

As many wanted quarterback Matt Schaub to be replaced by backup T.J. Yates, they got their wish, yet it wasn’t the right way. Schaub was injured in the second half, after sustaining a right ankle injury, and to the demise of his teammates, the injury was cheered by Texans’ fans.

According to the Houston Chronicle, several players were disgusted by the fans’ applause. Left tackle Duane Brown called it “disgusting”, quarterback T.J. Yates who came in relief of Schaub called it “disrespectful”, J.J. Watt said the fans who approved of the injury live a “backwards life” and then Arian Foster and Andre Johnson spoke up.

Andre Johnson, who has been with the Texans his entire career said:

“It’s bad when members of the other team are saying that’s messed up that (fans) would do something like that. It just shows no class,” Johnson said. “It wasn’t all the fans. But those are the same people that you’re out somewhere with your family and you tell them they can’t have an autograph right now, those are the same people that tell you you’re rude.” (Houston Chronicle)

Strong words in what is most certainly a disappoint season, from a franchise player, and it speaks volumes of the chaos in Houston. There had been reports earlier in the week that angry fans showed up  at Matt Schaub’s house and heckled him.

As far as the game is concerned, Rams quarterback Sam Bradford went 12-16 for 117 yards and three touchdowns, and the Rams defense/special teams included their own scoring as well.  Rookie first-round pick, linebacker Alec Ogletree had a 98-yard interception return for a touchdown and Daren Bates recovered a Keshawn Martin punt return fumble, for a touchdown.

The Rams won by a final score of 38-13 and improved to 3-3 on the season.

There will be many wondering what’s next for Houston and the quarterback situation, and while it’s not the prettiest situation, the Houston Texans have displayed their ugly faces. Regardless of the Texans’ season, the fans have a lot more growing up to do than the franchise.
