Dealing with Tragedy Tomas Tatar Rises Above in 3-1 win for Detroit
- Updated: January 12, 2014
LOS ANGELES- Tomas Tatar has been relied on heavily this season for the Detroit Red Wings. Tatar is considered one of the future stars the Wings will have for years to come.
Last night the Red Wings were in LA to face off against the Kings. Over the weekend Tatar had learned that his father, Jan, had past away after battling a longtime illness. That didn’t stop Tatar from playing his best game yet as a Red Wing.
Tatar honored his father by assisting on a goal scored by new comer from the Grand Rapids Griffins, Riley Sheahan. Tatar’s night was far from over.
Late in the third period Tatar banged home a rebound to cap off a great game and after he scored took off his glove and pointed to the sky knowing that the goal was for his father and that his father was watching down on him. The Wings won 3-1.
Guys helped me a lot,” he said. “I can’t be more happy with this group of guys. They talk to me, they help me out, they try to make me think about other stuff, not my dad.”
“He had a heavy heart,” Red Wings forward Daniel Cleary said. “You could tell from his celebration what it meant to him.”
