Callahan to return Monday against LA
- Updated: October 4, 2013
Pat Leonard of New York Daily News reports, New York Rangers captain Ryan Callahan is returning to the lineup Monday against the Los Angeles Kings. Head coach Alain Vigneault confirmed at practice that Callahan will be making his season debut. This is good news because Callahan was supposed to be out for several weeks.
It is crucial that the Rangers have Callahan back. Callahan can help fix an inconsistent forecheck that was non existent at time against the Phoenix Coyotes Last night. During practice he was paired with Brian Boyle and Taylor Pyatt, which will likely be the lockdown line.
With the Rangers over the roster limit, rumor has it Jesper Fast will be sent down to Hartford in the AHL to make room for Callahan. Fast will get top six minutes and an opportunity to work out his game which is good for both him and the Rangers.
In his 6 year career with the Rangers, captain Callahan has not scored over 30 goals in his whole career and has only broke 50 points one time in his career in 2012. Look for him to step up with more goals and points. He also needs to improve his plus/minus rating, career he is 1, but 3 of the past 4 seasons he has been negative.
