Ron Rivera signs three-year extension with Panthers
- Updated: January 28, 2014
After taking his team to an NFC South division title and their first playoff appearance since 2008, head coach Ron Rivera has been extended by the Panthers through the 2017 season.
“The improvement of our team has been reflected in the progress of the record over the last three seasons under Ron, and we look forward to building upon that foundation,”- Panthers Owner and Founder Jerry Richardson.
Since Week 12 of the 2012 regular season the Panthers have won 17 of their last 22 games, and this season won 11 of their last 12 games which include a franchise-record eight game win streak. Rivera’s record has improved every season since he was hired in 2011. In his first season the team went 6-10, improved to 7-9 in 2012, and the major turnaround in 2013 which led to a 12-4 record.
Ron Rivera: “I have been very clear about how much I have enjoyed living in Charlotte and working for this organization.”

Rivera: “I very much appreciate the support and confidence Mr. Richardson and Dave Gettleman have shown in me and our staff.”

Rivera: “Any success we have enjoyed is the result of a team effort by players, coaches, scouts and the entire organization.”

The Panthers have struggled opening their seasons with success under Rivera, so it would seem a hot start and a playoff win would be next in line on the team’s and Rivera’s wish list.
